MADIDI NATIONAL PARK

Access from: Rurrenabaque
Activities: Walks – Observation of wildlife - Cultural Interpretation - Interaction with Indigenous peoples 
The Madidi Park constitutes one of the most important reserves for biodiversity on the planet. There you will find the Tacana ethnic group, with its ample knowledge of the transformation of seeds, palms and wood. The visitor can also learn, observe or buy handicrafts. You can also stay at Chalalán ecolodge, a community enterprise that offers visitors a comfortable atmosphere with cabins in the traditional Tacana style, local cuisine and guides attuned to nature. The system of sustainable environmental management by which the community of San José de Chupiamonas lives has earned international recognition. From Chalalán you can explore the tropical rainforest, observing and monitoring birds and mammals, hiking the area’s paths, or exploring ethno-botanical and woodland medicine. San Miguel del Bala is another community enterprise, located very close to Rurrenabaque. Its ecolodge is located in an area with ample biodiversity and the possibility of pursuing activities such as sport-fishing, woodland walks and activities involving interaction with indigenous peoples.


APOLOBAMBA, AREA of INTEGRAL MANAGEMENT

Access from: La Paz
Activities: Walks – Observation of Camelids and Andean Avifauna - Cultural Interpretation   
Apolobamba offers one of Bolivia’s most diverse landscapes, rising to between 2,800 and 6,200 metres above sea level. In Apolobamba we can appreciate birds such as the Piuquén-Andean Goose (Choephaga melanoptera), Ahuash (Áulica gigantea), White-Tufted Grebe (Rollandia roland), Silvery Grebe (Podiceps occipitalis), Andean Lapwing (leque leque, or Vanellu resplendens) and Condor (Vultur gryphus). Mammals such as llamas, vicuñas and alpacas can be observed, as well as animals such as the White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) and Dwarf Brocket (mazama chunyi). The cultural wealth of the area is expressed by the Kallawayas, experts in traditional medicine.

AMBORO NATIONAL PARK

Access: From Santa Cruz
Activities: Observation of wildlife – Environmental interpretation
The Amboro Park presents an average altitude of 300 to 3,300 metres above sea level. It is part of the Vicabamba – Amboro Conservation Corridor. In this area monkeys such as the Red-faced spider monkey (Ateles paniscus) can be appreciated, as well as birds like the Andean Cock-of-the-rock (Rupícola peruviana) and the White-capped Dipper (Cinclus Leucocephalus). Distinguished among the macaws is the Blue-throated Macaw (Ara glaucogularis) which is a species endemic to Bolivia.  

TORO TORO NATIONAL PARK

Access: Cochabamba
Activities:  Speleology – Palaeontology – Archaeology and Observation of Nature.
The Toro Toro National Park is a magical place where ivory-like stalactites and stalagmites can be appreciated in the "Cave or Cavern of Uma Jalanta". Innumerable silhouettes or figures of chalky stone are to be discovered, as well as stalactites and stalagmites formed over hundreds of years. Continuing this tour, one can observe an underground lagoon, where “blind fish” can still be found. We will follow the "footsteps left by Dinosaurs and Carnosaurs", 80-million-year-old tracks from the Cretaceous Period, the cemetery of Tortugas, cave painting and observation of plant and animal fossils.

SAJAMA NATIONAL PARK

Access: La Paz - Oruro
Activities: Walks – Observation of Andean birds and animals and camelids – Interpretation of Nature- Interaction with Indigenous peoples
The Majesty of the Cordillera of the Andes and the Altiplano plateau can be admired in the Sajama National Park, known for the presence of the Volcano that bears its name, which is Bolivia’s highest peak at a height of 6,542 metres. On short walks you can observe the Keñua (Polilepys Tarapacana) which is the world’s highest woody formation. Also outstanding are enormous banks of Yareta (Azorella Compacta) and Andean fauna such as Llamas, Alpacas, Vicuñas and Suri (Pterocnemia Pennata) a type of Andean ostrich; all this wildlife lends the Park a singular identity. Besides the presence of the Tomarapi Aymara Community Hostel, which demonstrates the quality of service offered by the indigenous people of the area, there are the Manasaya thermal baths, another enterprise run by the community. The Lauca Circuit is a walk within the Park’s buffer zone, a remarkable circuit that permits the enjoyment of nature and culture and is managed by three communities - Macaya, Sacabaya and Julo.

CARRASCO NATIONAL PARK

Access: Cochabamba – Santa Cruz
Activities: Bird watching – Hiking - Environmental Interpretation
The units of vegetation present in the area are: the mountainous rain forest of Yungas, a very humid forest in the foothills, containing sub-Andean rainforest and vegetation characteristic of Yungas, an area at the jungle’s edge. In this area it is possible to find 7 ecological regions that can be differentiated by the types of vegetation they contain. In this area one can observe species such as the Guacharo (Steatornis caripensis) which lives in the Caverns of the Repechón, the Cock-of-the-rock (Rupícola Peruviana) and certain endemic species such as the Bolivian Recurvebill Simoxenops striatus) and grey Antwren (Myrmotherula menetriesii).

EDUARDO AVAROA NATIONAL RESERVATION of ANDEAN FAUNA

Access: Uyuni
Activities: Observation of Avifauna Andean - Culture – Hikes
The Eduardo Avaroa Reservation is part of the Uyuni Salt Lake Circuit, one of the most important nesting sites for flamingos in Bolivia. Here it is possible to observe all three kinds, namely the Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis), Andean Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus Andinus), and Puna Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus Jamesi). Noteworthy among the other birds that are found in the Reservation are the Suri (Pterocnemia pennata) and the Horned Coot (Fúlica corneta). The site is ideal for the observation of vicuñas, and important geological sites such as geysers.
