    UY201 TRAIN CEMETERY
    DURATION: 1 HOUR
Bolivia is a tin and silver mining country. At the beginning of the 1900s the first engines and carriages arrived to facilitate exporting tin and silver to Chile. Progress never came to these small communities and the trains have been abandoned as silent witnesses to Bolivia’s mining heyday. Now, after over 100 years, you can wander around and in the remains of these trains as they slowly rust away.

    UY202 PULACAYO
    DURATION: 2 HOURS
22 km from Uyuni on the main road to Potosí, Pulacayo was Bolivia’s most important mining centre in the nineteenth century. The first train in Bolivia is still in this mining community, which was where Bolivia’s most important revolution was planned. Visit the house of ex-President Aniceto Arce.

    UY203 GROTTO OF THE GALAXIAS
    DURATION: 2 HOURS
The Grotto of the Galaxias is close to Aguaquiza, on the other side of the salt flats. It is a small 2-level cave full of petrified algae and coral. Close by is the Devil’s Cave, which is a sacred site for the local indigenous people, and a pre-Inca cemetery where you can see funeral towers – chullpas.

    DURATION: 9 HOURS
After breakfast we will embark on our trip to Salt Lake of Uyuni to enjoy the salt flats, whose salt crust covers over 12,000 km², and where you will see salt piles (each weighing 1 tonne), salt blocks and the ‘eyes’ of the salt lake. We will also visit Incahuasi Island, with stunning views over the salt lake, and walk through the cactus valley. After enjoying a delicious lunch in the middle of the salt flats see the Coquesa mummies and Chantani museum and learn about the local culture. Return to the hotel across the world’s largest salt flats.
